Psalm 90:10 says, "The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
I have believed for a long time that a "successful life" of 70-80 years is simply a collection of successful years, quarters, months, weeks, days and hours. I believe it is possible to live every hour of every day on purpose, leading to a very fruitful and successful life.
In order to do this with my personality type, an ESTJ, I enjoy doing a daily, weekly, 30 Day, 90 Day and Annual Focus.
This is how I do my 30 Day Focus:
At the beginning of each month, I look back on the last 30 days and see what were the highlights of the month. The reason I can do this fairly easily is, I keep a daily record and "Table of Contents" in my journal that has captured the word for the day and significant things that may have happened. I then try to highlight and record 10-12 highlights of that month...important learnings, birthdays, anniversaries, or etched memories...things for which I want to remember and give thanks.
I also look ahead into the next 30 days and see what I need to pay attention to in my LIFE, MARRIAGE, FAMILY, WORK & CHURCH. This is a time for anticipation for what the Lord may do this upcoming 30 days.
I find that having these daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual times to focus, helps me live a life more on purpose in balance. What about you?
