I just read 1 Peter 2.25, "For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls." I love this phrase and truth that Jesus is my Shepherd and Overseer of my soul. I need an Overseer of my soul. I was reminded in 1 Pet. 2:11... "to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul". I have seen how sinful desires can war against my soul and I need an Overseer. This made me think of all the places in Scriptures that talk of "MY SOUL".
Psa. 23:3 ...He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Psa. 25:1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
Psa. 34:2 My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Psa. 42:1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Psa. 42:11 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Psa. 62:1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.
Psa. 62:5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.
Psa. 94:19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.
Psa. 103:1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits...
The songwriter wrote, "It is well with my soul."
How is it with your soul? Give thanks that we have an Overseer of our souls.
