It's Been Awhile

Much has happened since my last entry of Feb.7. Debbie and I have had an incredible schedule of going to Macedonia and leading a marriage conference. We just loved it. We met so many fine people from Macedonia and Andrej and Bekah were able to come from Slovakia. Such fun. I have enjoyed tremendous times in the Scriptures and I am going to post several thoughts and ideas over the last few weeks. Debbie was invited to paint for the North Point Easter services and we love seeing her gifts at work in this place. Only God.

Comforted by God - 2 Cor.1.3-4

This morning I woke up very heavy hearted missing my family all over the world. It moved me to the point of many tears. In my heaviness, I cried out to God for His comfort. I asked God to please help me...please comfort me...please strengthen my heart. As I called out to the Lord this Scripture came into my mind...
2 Cor. 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
I was soooo comforted by these 2 verses and the truth that my God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. In my past I would go to food, drink, sex and other to try to bring comfort to my hurts and suffering. The older I get the more I want to go to God ALONE for my comfort.
What about you? Where do you go for comfort in your life? Do you go to God ALONE?

When You Pray - Matt.6.9

Matt. 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
One of the greatest and clearest teaching I've heard on this passage was by Andy Stanley when he summarized this prayer in this way:
When I pray...
1. DECLARE HIS GREATNESS
2. SURRENDER MY WILL
3. ACKNOWLEDGE MY DEPENDENCE FOR:
Provision
Pardon
Protection
This has become one of my favorite all time prayers. I love to declare His greatness. I need and want to surrender my will. And I want to acknowledge my dependence on Him for my provision, pardon and protection. You? How do you pray?

What Are You Excited About in 2008?

Recently a friend posed this question to me. I was surprised at how long it took me to answer this simple question. I'm sure it did not help having a severe cold when he asked me. As I thought about it further, my mind drifted to the following things:
1. I am excited about having grandchildren. I am excited for the next generation of Woodalls to come along this July.
2. I am excited about getting to know my heavenly Father, my Savior, Jesus and my Counselor, the Holy Spirit better.
3. I am excited about growing in wisdom, knowledge, understanding, discernment and judgment this year.
4. I am excited about building a deeper and richer marriage with Debbie.
5. I am excited for all 4 of our children and their spouses to find their way.
6. I am excited about a very good work to do at North Point Ministries...leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through creating predictable, small group environments where people experience authentic community and spiritual growth.
7. I am excited to take a mission trip to Macedonia and lead a marriage conference.
8. I am excited about mentoring 8 men to live life on purpose in balance.
9. I am excited about doing life with 5 other couples in our Community Group.
10. I am excited about writing "J Dub's Pubs" and lessons learned over the last 50 years.
11. I am excited about being totally dependent and restfully available to the Lord for wherever He leads and invites me.
These are some of the things that excite me in 2008. You?
What are you excited about in 2008?
